LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM



The City of Chewelah participates in a low-income energy assistance program as required by Washington State's Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA). 

Under RCW 19.405.120, Chewelah's electric utilities must meet 60% of the current demand for energy assistance by 2030, and 90% by 2050.

Chewelah has teamed up with Rural Resources to evaluate need, and to access and distribute allotted funds. Chewelah provided Rural Resources with $5,000 to help meet needs for energy assistance in 2021 and are scheduled to distribute $6,000 in 2022. Funds will increase annually until 60% of the established need is met in the year 2030. As information is gathered, the City of Chewelah will report on its website the amount of funds contributed and distributed to our target demographic.
